niversity of Indonesia Professor Attends Book Review Event "Indigenous Community Empowerment Policy" Doctoral Program in Public Administration
Pekanbaru, October 26, 2024 - The Doctoral Program (Ph.D.) in Public Administration of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Universitas Riau held a book review event titled "Indigenous Community Empowerment Policy" on Saturday, October 26, 2024. This book, authored by Prof. Dr. Sujianto, M.Si, delves into strategies and policies aimed at empowering indigenous communities in Indonesia, specifically the native tribes.
The event featured Prof. Dr. Martani Huseini, MBA., from the University of Indonesia as the keynote speaker, along with Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Si, the Dean of FISIP Universitas Riau, Dr. Auradian Marta, S.IP., M.A., WD 1 Academic Affairs, Dr. Mayarni, S.Sos., M.Si., WD 2 General Affairs and Finance, Prof. Dr. Zaili Rusli, M.Si., Professor of Development Administration, Drs. Chalid Sahuri, M.S., Retired Lecturer and Senior of the Public Administration Program, and all faculty members and students of the Doctoral Program in Public Administration.
Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, S.Sos., M.Si, expressed his appreciation for the initiative by the Doctoral Program in Public Administration in organizing this book review event. "Book reviews are an important step in enriching our insights on inclusive policies that focus on indigenous communities. We hope that this event will provide inspiration and insight for participants in understanding strategic issues in community empowerment," said Dr. Meyzi.
Dr. Adianto, S.Sos., M.Si., Coordinator of the Doctoral Program in Public Administration, expressed his hope that this event would enhance the knowledge of faculty and students on issues of indigenous community empowerment, providing new perspectives to support the development of science and policy in public administration.
Prof. Dr. Martani Huseini, MBA, as the main speaker, contributed to the discussion by highlighting the government’s crucial role in creating policies oriented toward the needs and unique characteristics of indigenous communities. "Effective policy must be adaptive and capable of responding to social dynamics and local culture. The government should support by providing broader participatory spaces for indigenous communities in the policymaking process," said Prof. Martani. He also emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government, academia, and the community in achieving sustainable empowerment for indigenous communities.
Prof. Dr. Sujianto, M.Si., as the author, explained the contents of his book, which discusses the policy approaches needed to empower indigenous communities. He noted that the book was based on in-depth research and firsthand field experience, aiming to provide insights into the challenges and solutions in empowering indigenous people. "Empowering indigenous communities is not only about economic support but also encompasses social and cultural aspects that must be considered in policymaking," Prof. Sujianto explained. He also emphasized the importance of active involvement of indigenous people in decision-making processes related to their lives.
The reading of a poem by Dr. Muchid, M.Phil, added a lively and warm atmosphere to the book review, followed by an interactive Q&A session that engaged all participants. It is hoped that participants will gain a more comprehensive understanding of the importance of holistic and sustainable empowerment policies.
